On this day, May 18, 1999, Backstreet Boys released the Millennium album!

Millennium dominated the charts landing at #1 in 25 countries. It entered the Billboard 200 at #1 with a record-breaking 1,134,000 million copies sold in it’s first week. Selling a first day record of nearly 500,000 copies in the U.S. on it’s first day alone. It eventually became the best selling album of 1999. To date it has sold 30 Million worldwide. Over it’s 13 years of release, it has become one of the best selling albums of all time.

Their appearance on MTV’s Total Request Live prompted police to shut down Times Square.

Millennium was honored with five 1999 Grammy Award nominations.
